With a slight delay—but better late than never—we’d like to take a moment at the start of the New Year to reflect on the many great things we accomplished in 2024.
For us at the West Pomeranian Folk University in Mierzyn, 2024 was a year full of hard work, commitment, and major achievements.
Among other things, we organized:
– The first Charity Ball in our history, in support of the West Pomeranian Hospice for Children and Adults—an important gesture toward our local community (the second edition is already scheduled for January 18!),
– The Folk Music Festival “Zachodniopomorskie Folkowisko”, a continuation of the “Summer Music School in West Pomerania” project (2024 edition),
– The International Conference “The Folk High School as a School of Active Citizenship in the Polish-German Border Region”, held in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Folk High School in Szyce (1924–2024).
We successfully completed the project:“My Individual Career Path”, which ran from June 1, 2023.
The goal was to support participants in planning and developing their career trajectories.
We also launched several major initiatives:
– The extensive, multi-module project “Intergenerational Meeting House” in collaboration with our Norwegian partner Hardanger Folkehøgskule,
– “Social Integration Club ‘Our Place’ – Your Place for Action!”, a project aimed at fostering social and professional integration for 50 participants, while increasing their employability and civic engagement,
– The second edition of “First Age University”, a program for young people aged 15–29 designed to develop social and professional competencies,
– “ZULovy SWITCH. Civic Development for Communities and Residents of West Pomerania”, focused on boosting civic engagement in four municipalities of our voivodeship,
– The project “ZULove Support”, aimed at improving social and professional adaptation and integration of refugees from Ukraine living in Poland.
Participants of the Intergenerational Zofia Sularz Theatre performed their co-created play—alongside their acting instructors—on the stage of the Polish Theatre in Szczecin! ![]()
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
We would like to thank all partners and specialists who chose to collaborate with us!
2025 doesn’t seem like a year for slowing down.
We invite you, as always, to follow us on Facebook and our website (link in the comments), and to take part in our projects, workshops, and community initiatives!
